A Christmas Misconception
If TV and shop windows accurately reflect people’s interests and desires, then the world is currently obsessed by Christmas.
So, no big surprise, I’ve found myself thinking about Christmases past, and one of my favourite Christmas stories comes from my eldest niece, when she was head of a single parent family.
Her little boy was enjoying his first Christmas as a school student, and he’d started hearing what other children think about Santa Claus and the origins of the Christmas gift stocking.
One day, on the trip home from school, the little boy informed his Mum that a friend in his class at school had told him, “Don’t you know? Santa is your Mum!”
My niece replied, “Oh, he’s just being silly.”
“Yes”, continued the boy, “I know he’s silly, cos you don’t have time to deliver gift stockings to everyone, do you?”
OK, Mum, what’s your answer to that?!

Isn’t it a bit cruel to lie to your kids… and then pop the truth on them years later?

Isn’t it more cruel to deprive your children of having all the fun of finding a gift-stuffed stocking at the end of the bed on Christmas morning? I don’t have kids of my own, so I can be smug about this!

Oh what a lovely and cute story. And personally myself I am glad my parents lied to me. I loved all of the excitement every Christmas Eve. I remember so well not being able to go to sleep as I was listening for Santa and his reindeer.
I love this and thanks for sharing with us!!:-)

I can remember asking Santa for a puppy - my heart’s desire that was consistently denied me by my folks… aw). Anyway, I thought I’d gotten it totally covered by asking Santa to not only bring a puppy, but to provide a collar and lead and, of course, some puppy food as the shops would be closed over Christmas!
Imagine my disappointment when all I received was a dolly, a puzzle, heaps of toys and games, a squashed tangerine and a sixpenny bit!
OMG… what a horrible lil ingrate I was!
