F1 Win For Lewis Hamilton & McLaren In Shanghai GP

In Shanghai today, Lewis Hamilton started the Grand Prix on pole, and one uneventful race later, he passed the chequered flag to win the penultimate race of the season.

Felipe Massa started 3rd on the grid behind his Ferrari team mate, Kimi Raikkonen, but Massa finished in 2nd place, after Raikkonen allowed him to overtake.  This manoeuvre is strategically advantageous to Ferrari as current leaders in the F1 Constructors World Championship.

In two weeks’ time, Lewis Hamilton and McLaren aim to claim the Formula One Drivers World Championship at the Grand Prix in Brazil, with 94 points to Felipe Massa (Ferrari) on 87.  But Massa will be playing to his home crowd in Brazil and that degree of overt support will boost him up, and he’s already a hard man to beat.

Even if Massa wins the Grand Prix in Brazil, Hamilton finishing the race in 5th position or better, will win him the Formula One Drivers World Championship.

As always when the end of the Formula One Racing season is approaching, I start wondering what to do with my fortnightly Saturday and Sunday afternoons which are spent watching F1 Qualifying and GPs on TV during the season.

Perhaps I’ll get into football again, that’s a sports interest that waxes and wanes dependent upon the dominant personalities at any given time. Perhaps that sounds a bit crazy, but I’ve already confessed to being personality-led in sports.

I think I’ll spend the next two weeks in deep spiritual contemplation, meditation and chanting… just to make sure Lewis Hamilton has the best possible chance of winning that Formula One Drivers World Championship in Brazil.

Yeah, right……

It really is something to look forward to, isn’t it? F1 is certainly an edge-of-your-seat sport again - after last year, I’m so nervous - I don’t know if I’ll have any fingernails left by Sunday’s race. Of course, it would be Brasil - Massa’s home stomping ground. ;-)
