Highway Hijacking As A Family
My family is pretty close knit, and over the years, my sister and I have shared many family adventures - before, during and after her marriage.
For instance, there was one occasion when I was around 19 years old, and was visiting my sister, her husband and their year old baby at their new home.
Back then, they didn’t have a car, but did own a motorbike and sidecar, and one day we’d all piled in it and roared off up the road for a day out, but as luck would have it, the bike sprang a puncture!
We were a band of pretty untogether shaggy-brained hippies, and were stranded in the middle of the English countryside with a puncture and no repair kit!
We needed to get a lift to a garage, so we spent a few minutes limbering up our thumbs, and then aimed them at the approaching traffic. Strangely, none of the passing drivers felt compelled to stop and help a long-haired hippy bloke accompanied by two women and a child… oh, and a motorbike wheel, of course!
Desperate measures were needed, and we devised a plan, now, can you guess who was nominated to play decoy? I was a buff 19 year old, and the obvious candidate to station themselves at the kerbside and cock my thumb at the oncoming drivers, while everyone else crouched down, out of sight, behind the motorbike.
It wasn’t long before a delusional, lone male driver braked, pulled to the roadside, leaned across to the window smiling, and as I opened the door to get in, I saw his face literally collapse as he spotted the rest of the gang disgorging from behind the bike and piling into his car.
Fortunately he was a courteous fellow and the situation wasn’t openly acknowleged - he simply drove us to the garage and dropped us off. Somehow I doublt he’ll fall for that trick again! We might be shaggy-brained, but we aren’t daft — another family plan executed flawlessly!
Oh, happy, carefree days!

Hello lovely one, thanks for christening the comments in my new blog!
It’s my sister in the photo, I suppose I’d better add a caption for clarity. I’m looking forward to posting more stories, altho I’d best be careful what I let out of the bag!!
