The Vampire Theory
I’ve just watched John Carpenter’s Vampires, a movie made in 1998 and starring James Woods and Daniel Baldwin as the vampire slayers, and the gorgeous Thomas Ian Griffin as the evil über-vamp, Valek. I’m not a big fan of horror per se, as I don’t like all the gore and entrails, but I do like the tongue-firmly-in-cheek humour of this genre, and I’m also a big fan of vampire stories.
The legend of the Vampire has fascinated us since we first sat around a camp fire and shared tall tales of brave heroes and their extraordinary escapades, and ordinary folk and their amusing misadventures! The vampire is youthful and sexy, it’s exotic and erotic, no wonder its appeal is universal!
It’s this fascination - coupled with our innate delight at being ‘spooked’ - that partially accounts for the massive popularity of TV shows like ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’ and ‘Angel’, of which I’m an avid fan!
It’s decades since I first realised that I believe in the existence of vampires, because I consider I’ve been acquainted with people who possess the vampire trait. Do you think I’m a crazy lady? I’m not. Well, not that crazy, anyway.
The vampires I’m talking about don’t have fangs, nor do they sleep in a coffin, or drink their victims’ blood. The vampires I believe in exhibit much more subtle and insidious vampiric behaviour. Our blood represents the life force, it carries and distributes the nutrients required for the body to function efficiently. What the modern vampire does is “leech the life force”, leaving the victim weakened and a shadow of their former self.
Over the years, the vampires I’ve known have been people who are like the kiss of death to anyone with whom they become closely involved. After a prolonged relationship with a vampire, people who have been intelligent, independent thinkers, with a positive outlook and bright future become demotivated vapid shadows of themselves.
So, don’t laugh when I say that I believe in vampires, because the vampire does exist and there’s possibly one in your life now and you just don’t realise it.
Here’s a tip that may help … check if everyone in your house has a reflection in the mirror!

I’ve observed these vampires draining their partners over the years, yet I was ignorant of the term ‘emotional vampire’. Just Googled it and am reading other people’s thoughts about the topic. Thanks for signpost!

My shrink referred to such people as “psychic” vampires but that seems to have a different connotation in the common vernacular.

Emotional and psychic certainly have different meanings in my own vocab, however, I’ll expand my search terms! Again, thanks for the input, I’ve been reading some really interesting stuff (should be working, of course, but wtf!).
